30 Minute Meal – Pheasant Poppers

If you’ve never cooked pheasant, don’t let it intimidate you.   You might be a little hesitant due to it’s reputation of being a dry, tough piece of meat if cooked incorrectly.   Joe Beranek from our agency in Miller is an avid pheasant hunter and has been cooking up pheasant dishes for many years.  He has a few cooking tips for you –

1) Cook it low and slow

2) Add some extra fat to help the meat retain moisture

Today’s 30 Minute Meal is Joe’s favorite way to cook pheasant.   He suggests adding some roasted vegetables as a side dish and voila, your meal is complete.


Pheasant breasts

Slices of bacon

Cream cheese

Sliced Jalapeno peppers


Slice pheasant breasts into 1 inch by 1 inch chunks.  Place breasts on a 4-5 inch slice of bacon.  Put 1-2 teaspoons of crease cheese and a jalapeno slice on top of the pheasant chunk.  Wrap the bacon around the pheasant, cream cheese and jalapeno.   Hold it all together with a toothpick.   Grill 10 minutes on each side at 350 degrees.
