I recently got sucked into watching a TV show on TLC called Extreme Couponing. Have you seen it? The people on the show are so interesting it was hard for me to turn the channel. The camera follows people around that take the art of clipping coupons to a whole new level. These folks will spend countless hours (I’m talking 35-40 hours per week) searching the Internet for coupons or even dumpster diving for newspapers that run a certain coupon for this or that. They even use 3-ring binders to keep their coupons organized! Don’t get me wrong. I love saving money where I can. But rummaging around in a big grimy garbage can is not my idea of fun.
A better and cleaner way you can save money is by reviewing the discounts and coverages on your auto insurance policy. Here are a few things to consider –
- When you have your auto and home insurance with the same insurance company, you will receive a multi-policy discount.
- If you have comprehensive or collision coverage on your car, ask yourself if you really need it. If your vehicle is older and worth close to nothing, this coverage might not be right for you.
- If you have a high school or college aged student on your policy and the student is making the Honor Roll, then you might be eligible for a Good Student discount on your policy.
- Many insurance companies are now offering a discount if you are willing to pay your bill EFT (electronic funds transfer).
