Inquiring Minds Need to Know

The media has been flooding our minds lately with information about health care reform. The TV, newspapers and our favorite radio stations are constantly running commercials telling you about this plan or that plan. But if you’re still confused or have questions…’re not alone!

Brenda Arteman in our Huron office visits with people everyday about their health care insurance plan and there are a handful of questions that come up again and again when talking with customers.     So, we thought it would be helpful to share these questions and the answers to help you better understand the facts about purchasing a health care policy through the government’s Marketplace.

Q:When will my health care insurance plan go into effect?

A: If your application is received by February 15, 2015 your policy will go into effect on March 1, 2015. After March 1, you can apply for health insurance in the Marketplace ONLY if you qualify for a special enrollment period.

Q: What is my health care plan through the Marketplace going to cost?

A: The cost is going to be determined by many factors including your age, tobacco use and income.   For example, if you are a 30 year old who doesn’t use tobacco, the cost under the Gold Plan will be around $345 per month (no tax credits applied).   If you are 50 years old and don’t use tobacco, the cost under the Bronze Plan will be about $312 per month (no tax credits applied).

Q: What services are covered:

A: Preventive care visits, immunizations, and screenings. Maternity, newborn, and pediatric care is also covered. Laboratory services, prescriptions, and mental health services are covered as well.

Q: Why should I work with a local insurance agent when purchasing my plan:

A: Many Americans are choosing to purchase a plan without any help. But, I must warn you, the process might be a little tough. Most agents, including myself, have been through hours of education and training on health care reform. Because of that, I can help you shop for a plan that fits your medical needs and your budget.   Most importantly, if you have questions after you get a plan purchased, I am only a phone call away.
